Welcome to the UNRISD Ideas Incubator
! This is a space where we take special care of ideas for new research projects. The idea on this page is still being developed: it is a “pre-project”, not yet fully fledged or funded. To join us in accelerating research on this issue, please get in touch!
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development understands the critical global challenges facing society today as deeply interconnected. Achieving the SDGs therefore requires an interconnected approach that balances the economic, social and environmental pillars of sustainable development and works to ensure that progress in one area does not undermine progress in others. Identifying and analyzing such tensions, trade-offs and policy incoherence in global governance regimes is key to developing policy reforms and integrated strategies that maximize synergies. Without cross-sectoral and cross-border cooperation and knowledge sharing, this vision for universal justice and shared prosperity will remain out of reach.
As a first critical step in facilitating this dialogue, UNRISD will hold a conference that aims to advance knowledge on how to improve multi-level governance and policy coherence in the implementation process of the 2030 Agenda. The conference will create a forum for dialogue and mutual learning to share experiences on new approaches to coordination, policy integration and partnerships, and strengthen the capacity of development actors—including civil society and policymakers from the Global South—elevating their analysis and viewpoints to the international level. A key output of the conference will be a collaboratively drafted governance action plan, an essential tool for the effective and integrated implementation of the SDGs. The conference will work to foster strong alliances for transformative change, bringing global society one step closer to this new vision for our world.
