Intern: Publications and Dissemination Unit

UNRISD is now accepting applications for an internship position based within the Publications and Dissemination Unit, working full time with the Web and Media Consultants. The Intern will:
  • Assist with the day-to-day updating and maintenance of the UNRISD website in English, French and Spanish, and assist other staff with their contribution of content to the site; and
  • Assist in strengthening the Institute’s global research communication strategy by supporting media outreach (national, regional and international media; specialist media; and United Nations–specific internal and external media).

It is estimated that half of the Intern’s time will be spent on the website, and half on media outreach.

Part I: UNRISD website

1. Assist with monitoring, updating and maintaining CMS databases.
2. Review and troubleshoot content contributed by UNRISD staff via the CMS for online posting. Edit and proofread this content prior to web publishing to ensure conformity with UNRISD House Style.
3. Liaise and work with UNRISD staff in order to ensure publicity of their ongoing work and new initiatives on the website.
4. Respond to users’ queries.

Part II: Global research communication activities

Media communication office

5. Draft op notes, press releases (etc.) on UNRISD publications, events, research and other news, for timely use in outreach activities.
6. Liaise with the media to promote the work of the Institute and sell-in UNRISD angles to them in order to increase coverage.
7. Plan and create UNRISD podcasts and video products.
8. Motivate and support research staff in implementing media outreach and communication goals.
9. Monitor the general press office email account (press@unrisd.org, presse@unrisd.org, prensa@unrisd.org) accordingly.

Other activities

10. Proactively use, contribute to, maintain and update the diary system with which UNRISD plans communication strategies.
11. Work with the Web and Media Consultants in contributing to the development of formal procedures for targeted outreach to UN departments and entities.
12. Work with the Web and Media Consultants in contributing to the development of formal procedures for targeted outreach to academia (university departments, research institutes).

Languages:

14. Fluent English. Working knowledge of French or Spanish an asset.

Starting date: Tuesday 17 August 2010. Duration of internship: 2 months with a possible extension to 4 months

This UNRISD internship is in accordance with the rules and regulations of the UN Internship Programme. Interns are not financially remunerated, and UNRISD is not responsible for interns' travel expenses to and from Geneva, or for mandatory medical insurance during the period of the internship.

Applicants must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme.
