Methods to Induce Change at the Local Level: A Survey of Expert Opinion. First Report.
The issue of participation was a central part of the Institute’s research in the 1960s on Methods and Problems of Social Development and Planning at the Local Level. A survey of 400 national and international project personnel in 13 countries was undertaken to better understand the different factors that influence the outcomes of development projects. This document reports on the method and results of the survey, which identified the motivation and participation of local people as key to success. Also available in French as:
