A conference entitled “Responsible Sourcing: Improving Global Supply Chains Management”, was held at the European Union in Brussels on 18 November 2005. UNRISD was represented by Peter Utting
, Deputy Director. Peter presented on the current challenges and future of responsible sourcing. He also chaired the afternoon sessions.
Organised by DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, in association with the Fondation des Droits de l’Homme au Travail, the conference explored the challenge of responsible sourcing. Key questions concerned the impact of codes of conduct and social auditing at the micro level; the potential and limits of multistakeholder initiatives and their relevance to improving workers’ rights; and the “privatisation” of social rights.
Peter’s PowerPoint presentation, entitled “Beyond Social Auditing: Micro and Macro Perspectives”, is available to view here
