Former Intern (Research)
Oona joined UNRISD in February 2015, working with the Sustainable Development Programme on Social and Solidarity Economy and developing a new project on the linkages of social and solidarity economy and finance.
She holds a BA in Political Science and Social Anthropology from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and an MSc in Africa and International Development from the University of Edinburgh, UK. Through her studies in Social Anthropology she came into contact with the concept of social and solidarity economy, alternative finance and complementary currencies. In her master studies she placed one focus on social cash transfers in the Global South and wrote her master thesis on social cash transfers and their relationship to democratic satisfaction in Southern Africa.
Oona has previously worked as a student research assistant at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Bern and interned at the Mercator Foundation Switzerland.
She is particularly interested in the developmental potential of social solidarity economy and finance activities, and the social impact of complementary currencies.
