Nisha Baruah

Former Intern (Research)

Nisha joined UNRISD in July 2015 to work in the Social Policy and Development programme and mainly assist with the institute’s forthcoming Flagship Report “Policy Innovations for Transformative Social Change”.

Nisha completed her BA in Economics with distinction in India, following which she graduated from her master’s degree in International Political Economy from King’s College London. During her time in her master’s programme, she has conducted research on issues in addressing inequalities in emerging economies, state-led developmentalism in BRIC nations, and development assistance in South-South Cooperation. For her dissertation, she studied India’s potential for a demographic dividend using its quality of education as an indicator.

Previously, she interned at Reignite Action for Development in London, a charity involved in attaining sustainable development in Cameroon, Africa. Nisha’s research interest lies in social protection, education, political economy, and inequality, particularly in emerging economies.
