Saskia Sickinger

Former Intern (Research)

Saskia joined UNRISD as a Research Intern in November 2016. She assists Senior Research Coordinator Ilcheong Yi and Research Analyst Kelly Stetter with the projects “Towards Universal Social Security in Emerging Economies,” “New Directions in Social Policy: Alternatives from and for the Global South” and the organisation of the latter’s upcoming workshop in May 2017.

Prior to joining UNRISD, Saskia received a Master's degree in ‘Development Administration and Planning’ from the University College London (UCL) in September 2016. During her Master’s programme, she has conducted research on issues related to capacity building of civil society organisations in Uganda, including primary research in Kampala, as well as other issues of sustainable urban development, social transformation and approaches to development management.

Her MSc dissertation examined the subject of socio-spatial inequality in Rio de Janeiro through investigating the relationship between slum upgrading programmes and mega-sporting events, in the case of Morar Carioca and the 2016 Olympic Summer Games.

Previously, Saskia has also spent respectively one semester studying in Chile and Brazil, as well as working on intercultural exchange at the Vanderbilt International Office in the USA.
