Christy joined UNRISD in October 2008 as an intern to work with Katja Hujo and Elena Gaia on the Social Policy and Development Programme. She was then working toward a Master’s degree in Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Her dissertation research was an institutional analysis exploring how South African national and provincial youth policies are being implemented within eThekwini municipality (Durban) to provide basic social protection to all youth. She also holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing from Edinboro University.
Prior to joining UNRISD, Christy was the programme director for Umthombo Street Action, an organisation that works towards the goal of changing the way that society perceives and treats children living and working on the streets in South Africa. She has had extensive experience working with international development organisations in Washington, DC, as well as grassroots organizations in places such Sierra Leone, Liberia and most recently South Africa.
Christy's main research interests included social policy, social protection, migration, social exclusion as well as gender and care.
