Octavian Porumboiu

Research Intern

Octavian joined UNRISD as Research Intern in October 2017. He assists Senior Research Coordinator Ilcheong Yi and Research Analyst Kelly Stetter on the ongoing project New Directions in Social Policy: Alternatives from and for the Global South, as well as with the development of new projects on the Gig Economy and Social Security and on Social Policy Responses to New Tech Divides.

Octavian has recently completed a Master’s degree in Development Studies from London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. His master dissertation examines public attitudes towards inequality and the role of the state in providing social welfare in twenty-eight former communist countries from Europe and Central Asia.

Previously, he obtained a bachelor degree in Economics from the “Al. I. Cuza” University Iasi, Romania and a MA in Comparative Business Economics at University College London, UK. After he obtained his bachelor degree, he worked in the Romanian private sector for more than 14 years.
