Born in Angola, Gilberto pursued his university studies in Switzerland. He holds an MSc in Applied Statistics from the University of Neuchâtel, as well as two undergraduate degrees in Economics and Political Science, both from the University of Geneva.
Before joining UNRISD in October 2005, he worked as teaching assistant at the Geneva High Business School (Haute Ecole de Gestion), where he was responsible for creating and correcting inference and descriptive statistics exercises, as well as writing statistics material for students.
He is fluently bilingual (Portuguese and French), both spoken and written, has a working knowledge of English (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English – CAE) and possess conversational skills in Spanish.
At UNIRISD he worked with Naren Prasad (Research Coordinator) on his project researching governmental social spending and social policy.
