Matt worked at UNRISD from January - May 2008. He worked with Yusuf Bangura and Tom Lavers on the Poverty Reduction and Policy Regimes programme. Matt investigated the relationship between structural transformation, poverty reduction and policy regimes.
Matt holds an MSc in Political Economy of Development from SOAS and a BA in Economics from Nottingham. Matt's MSc dissertation examined the income divergence trends for Indian states and the role of increasingly liberalised infrastructure provision by the state. Prior to joining UNRISD, Matt worked for RESULTS, an advocacy charity specialising in TB/HIV/microfinance, and at Warwick University where he was an author of the 2006 National Evaluation of Local Strategic Partnerships for the UK government. His research interests include comparative economic development, developmental states and the economics of sub-national and local regions.
