Saidakhror Burkhanov joined UNRISD in February 2008 in the Social Policy and Development Programme as an intern. He worked with Katja Hujo and Shea McClanahan, and contributed to the Flagship Report on Poverty Reduction and Policy Regimes, especially for the chapter on "Financing Social Policy". His tasks included the collection and analysis of information on fiscal policy and budget processes in developing countries.
At the time, Saidakhror was pursuing a Master's Degree in Development Economics from Nagoya University, Japan. During his Bachelor’s degree in Banking at the Tashkent Financial Institute, Uzbekistan, his research interest was mainly in the Foreign Exchange Market (FOREX) and international finance.
Before studying in Japan, Saidakhror worked in USAID Projects on small to medium sized enterprise (SME) development (www.globalcipa.net
), where he was involved in promoting accounting reforms, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan, through enhancing capacity building of auditors and accountants. He also worked at the Joint-Stock Commercial "Pakhta Bank" in Uzbekistan as a Leading Specialist on SME Financing.
