Former Intern (Research)
Barbara Walter joined UNRISD in January 2014 to assist with the projects on ‘Towards Universal Social Security in Emerging Economies: Processes, Institutions and Actors’, ‘New Directions in Social Policy: Alternatives from and for the Global South’ and ‘Social Policy in Post Conflict Settings’.
Before coming to UNRISD she interned at the Institute of African Affairs of the German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg. In September 2013 Barbara completed her Master in International Public Policy Analysis at the University of Bath. Her dissertation dealt with the conceptualisation of the state and governance in international development taking the provision of AIDS treatment in South Africa and informal governance elements in this sector as a case study. She obtained her Bachelor degree in Sociology from the University of Mannheim.
Between her Bachelor and her Master Barbara volunteered for a year in a children’s home in India and worked as a public relations assistant in a German NGO catering to the needs of children and young people.
