Jimi O. Adesina

External Co-ordinator
Jimi Adesin was the External Research Co-ordinator for the UNRISD sub-project on Social Policy in sub-Saharan Africa within the project titled "Social Policy in a Development Context".

Jimi teaches and conducts research in development, labour studies and social theory at the Department of Sociology of Rhodes University, South Africa. He was trained at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and at Warwick University, UK. He taught for several years at the University of Ibadan and served as head of the Department of Sociology. He was a senior research fellow at the Centre for Econometric and Allied Research (CEAR) at the same University. He has at various times taught at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and has been a visiting scholar at UNRISD, ECA/JASPA in Addis Ababa, and the University of Ulster, Derry, Northern Ireland.

He has published widely on labour, development studies and social theory. He is the Secretary of the South African Sociological Association, the interim Secretary-General of the African Sociological Association, and a member of the Executive Committee of Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).
