Abdul Rahman Embong

Former Collaborating Researcher

Abdul Rahman Embong holds a PhD in Sociology, is Professor in Sociology of Development at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and President of the Malaysian Social Science Association. He is writing a paper for UNRISD on Developmental State Capacity and Institutional Reform in Malaysia.
He has written numerous articles and books, including State-led Modernization and the New Middle Class in Malaysia; Southeast Asian Middle Classes: Prospects for Social Change and Democratisation (edited); Globalisation, Culture and Inequalities: In Honour of the Late Ishak Shari (edited); Southeast Asia into the Twenty First Century: Crisis and beyond (co-edited).
