Maria Virgínia Brás Gomes

Maria Virgínia Brás Gomes is a member of the Advisory Group for the UNRISD project Linking Social Protection and Human Rights; as well as a member of the Programme on Women's Economic Social and Cultural Rights (PWESCR) International Board, the European Social Network High Level Advisory Group on de-institutionalisation, the Board of the Portuguese UNICEF Committee and the National Human Rights Commission.

She is a Senior Social Policy Advisor in the General Directorate for Social Security (Portugal), and a member of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. She served as vice-chair of the Committee in 2009-2010 and as Rapporteur in 2013-2014.

Virgínia has conducted training in treaty body reporting, on behalf of the OHCHR in several States parties to the ICESCR, in Africa. She has also made presentations on social security, social protection, social development issues, and economic, social and cultural rights at a number of international conferences and seminars.
