Former Intern (Research)
Tobias joined UNRISD in October 2015 to assist with the Social Policy and Development programme and assist mainly with the project on Politics of Domestic Resource Mobilization for Social Development (PDRM).
Tobias completed a one-year civil service in Cochabamba, Bolivia at ‘Proyecto Integral Warmi’ from 2008 to 2009, after which he began a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Universität Bremen, Germany (2009 to 2013). Subsequently, he did an M.A. in International Development and Social Change at Clark University, United States, from 2013 to 2015 as a Fulbright Scholar. His research interests are social movements in Latin America, the social dimensions of natural resource extraction, gender as well spatial analysis of social issues with GIS. Accordingly, his Master’s thesis focused on the socio-organizational hierarchies regarding women within mining cooperatives in Bolivia. It also discusses the extent to which the cooperatives’ discourse of an alternative development model aligns with the Bolivian government´s development vision.
During both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, Tobias worked as a teaching assistant for Political Science and German language in his university departments. Moreover, he worked as a research assistant for the Collaborative Research Center, Transformations of the State at Universität Bremen.
