Inês Pio worked at UNRISD from March to June 2008 on the Identity, Conflict and Cohesion programme as an intern. Inês assisted Terence Gomez on the "Identity, Power and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples" project, and the section on Ethnic and Spatial Inequalities for the UNRISD Flagship report on Poverty.
Inês holds a degree in Psychology, with a specialization in Educational Psychology from Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada in Lisbon where she conducted research on migration, identity and integration of immigrant children studying in Lisbon schools. Inês also holds a Master in Cultures and Development from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. For her thesis she studied Christian and Muslim relations in Europe and the Middle East, social and political integration of Muslim minorities in Belgium and Christian minorities in Jordan, and compared interfaith dialogue initiatives, for which she conducted field-work in Brussels and Amman.
Prior to joining UNRISD Inês worked on the subject of equal opportunities and organizational development at the European Commission, DG SANCO in Brussels.
