Wee Chong Hui

Former Collaborating Researcher

Ms Wee Chong Hui has been an economics lecturer of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak, Malaysia since 1984. She has conducted studies on equity aspects of public finance, fiscal federalism, the Sarawak economy and poverty. Her works on public finance include equity aspects of Malaysian public health expenditure and taxation. Her studies of Malaysian fiscal federalism look at, inter alia, vertical equity, conflicts, petroleum resource revenues and the position of Sarawak in the Federation. She has also examined the Sarawak economy, including its public finance, its external sector and poverty, as well as poverty amongst urban communities in the capital city of Kuching.
Wee Chong Hui is the Advisor for the Women’s Development Programme of the Sarawak Family Planning Association, a voluntary organisation affiliated to the Federation of Family Planning Associations of Malaysia. She has worked with low-income communities in Kuching since 1996. The issues in which she has been involved through the Women’s Development Programme are women’s reproductive health and community health, literacy, women leadership and legal literacy as well as community education and development.
