Mònica Serlavós joined UNRISD in March 2014 to assist with the project on “Social and Solidarity Economy”.
In August 2013 Mònica completed her Master degree on Development Studies at The Graduate Institute of Geneva. She wrote her dissertation on “Social and Solidarity Economy as a transition path towards a degrowth society” focusing the attention on the Geneva Canton experience. In 2010 she obtained her Bachelor degree in Political Science from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
Before coming to UNRISD she collaborated with Gaea21, an association working for the application of the 21st Agenda and was responsible for two projects about designing eco-gests and the setting of a green network in Geneva. She also interned at UNOHCHR, at the Social and Economic Issues Department.
Mònica is currently combining her internship at UNRISD with her job as Technical Assistant at NORRAG (Network for international policies and cooperation in education and training) where she works since September 2013 providing support to the Geneva headquarters.
Mònica’s research interests include social transition models, ecological economy, environmental issues and degrowth.
