M. Ramesh

Former Collaborating Researcher

M. Ramesh is Senior Fellow in the Public Policy Program at the National University of Singapore. He is also Associate Professor (on leave) in Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney. He is the author (with Mukul Asher) of Welfare Capitalism in Southeast Asia: Social Security, Health, and Education (Macmillan, 2000) and co-author (with Michael Howlett) of two books, Studying Public Policy (1995 and 2003) and The Political Economy of Canada (1995 and 1999) both published by the Oxford University Press. His next book Social Policy in Asia: Education, Health, Housing and Income Maintenance in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, andChina (Taiwan Province) is expected to be in print by end of 2003. He has also published numerous articles in senior refereed
journals edited books.

Within the UNRISD project Social Policy in Late Industrializers: Transforming the Welfare State in East Asia, M. Ramesh explores the institutional dynamics of welfare developmentalism by examining and comparing the Central Provident Fund in Singapore and Employee Provident Fund in Malaysia with the background of the social security systems in the two countries.
