Roberto Bissio is a Uruguayan journalist who has written on development issues since 1973. He is Executive Director of the Instituto del Tercer Mundo (Third World Institute), a non-profit research and advocacy organization. He also heads the secretariat of Social Watch, an international network of groups monitoring issues related to poverty eradication and gender equality. He is a member of Third World Network's international committee and of the civil society advisory group to the UNDP administrator. He serves on the board of the Women’s Environment and Development Organization, based in New York, and of the Montreal International Forum.
