Maria Garrone

Former Intern

Maria was at UNRISD as an intern in 2009 assisting Katja Hujo and Elena Gaia on the Social Policy and Development Programme.
Maria holds an MSc in Economics with an emphasis on Africa from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. She also has a first and second degree in Development Economics (with distinction) at the University of Roma Tre in Rome. Maria’s MSc dissertation investigated the social and economic effects of the privatization of copper sector in Zambia.

Before joining UNRISD, Maria was a junior fundraiser for “La Scuola di Fundraising di Roma” in Rome. She also worked at the Cooperation Sector of the Italian Embassy in Lusaka, Zambia.

Her research interests include economic and social development in Sub-Sahara Africa, privatization process in developing countries, and participatory methods to the analysis of poverty.
